* path-components-safe: proc tests only on Linux.Kaz Kylheku2022-07-301-18/+20
| | | | | | | * stdlib/path-test.tl (safe-abs-path): If (uname) doesn't report Linux, then define this function in a way that it always returns true. We do this by making the name an alias for the tf function.
* path-components-safe: check symlink link count.Kaz Kylheku2022-07-301-2/+3
| | | | | | * stdlib/path-test.tl (path-components-safe): Reject symlinks that have a link count not equal to one. This looks suspiciously like a hard link attack.
* path-components-safe: tighten /proc checkKaz Kylheku2022-07-301-15/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Attacks are possible via /proc/<pid>/fd/<n> involving a deleted file, whereby the link target changes from "/path/to/file" to "/path/to/file (deleted)", which can be perpetrated by a different user, not related to process <pid>, who has access to perform unlink("/path/to/file"). * stdlib/path-test.tl (safe-abs-path): Perform the pattern check regardless of effective user ID. * tests/018/path-safe.tl: Test cases adjusted.
* path-components-safe: handle consecutive slashes.Kaz Kylheku2022-07-301-4/+2
| | | | | * stdlib/path-test (path-components-safe): Remove empty components from split path.
* path-components-safe: repel /proc symlink attacksKaz Kylheku2022-07-291-17/+42
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In a Linux system, it's possible for an unprivileged user to create a root symlink pointing to any directory, simply by changing to that directory and running a setuid executable like "su". That executable will get a process whose /proc/<pid> directory is root owned, and contains a symlink named cwd pointing to the current directory. Other symlinks under /proc look exploitable in this way. * stdlib/path-test.tl (safe-abs-path): New function. Here is where we are going to check for unsafe paths. We use some pattern matching to recognize various unsafe symlinks under /proc. (path-components-safe): Simplify code around recognition of absolute paths. When an absolute path is read from a symlink, remove the first empty component. Pass every absolute path through safe-abs-path to check for known unsafe paths. * tests/018/path-safe.tl: New tests.
* rel-path, path-equal: relocate.Kaz Kylheku2022-07-291-0/+94
| | | | | | | | * stdlib/copy-file.tl (path-simplify, path-split, path-volume, rel-path, path-equal): Remove from here. * stdlib/path-test.tl: (path-simplify, path-split, path-volume, rel-path, path-equal): Move to here.
* path-components-safe: refactoring.Kaz Kylheku2022-07-251-55/+37
| | | | | | | | * stdlib/path-test.tl (path-components-safe): Simplify code; forget trying to do anything on Windows: just return true. * txr.1: Document that path-components-safe is useless on Windows.
* New function: path-components-safe.Kaz Kylheku2022-07-251-0/+72
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * autoload.c (path_test_set_entries): Autoload on path-components-safe symbol. * stdlib/path-test.tl (if-windows, if-native-windows): New system macros. (path-safe-sticky-dir): New system function. (path-components-safe): New function. * tests/018/path-safe.tl: New file.' * txr.1: Documented. * stdlib/doc-syms.tl: Updated.
* path-test: object trust must use effective UID.Kaz Kylheku2022-07-241-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | * stdlib/path-test.tl (path-private-to-me, path-strictly-private-to-me): Call (getuid) rather than (geteuid). We won't revert this behavior with the -C compat option because it's wrong/insecure. * txr.1: Updated.
* stdlib: missing blank line after copyright header.Kaz Kylheku2022-01-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 93edcde038209335122964432bd35dee0c2ecb04, made in August 2021, accidentally removed the blank line after the copyright header in most stdlib files. stdlib{asm.tl, awk.tl, build.tl, compiler.tl, copy-file.tl, debugger.tl, doloop.tl, each-prod.tl, error.tl, except.tl, ffi.tl, getopts.tl, getput.tl, hash.tl, ifa.tl, match.tl, op.tl, package.tl, param.tl, path-test.tl, pic.tl, place.tl, pmac.tl, quips.tl, save-exe.tl, socket.tl, stream-wrap.tl, tagbody.tl, termios.tl, trace.tl, txr-case.tl, type.tl, vm-param.tl, with-resources.tl, with-stream.tl, yield.tl}: Ensure there is a blank line after the copyright header.

* path access tests: use real credentials.Kaz Kylheku2021-09-251-13/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The various accessibility functions like path-writable-to-me should use the real credentials, the same way that the POSIX access function does. This makes them much more useful and secure in setuid programs, since they answer the question "does the underlying user, without these elevated privileges, have this access". * stdlib/path-test.tl (path-mine-p): Use getuid, not geteuid. (path-my-group-p): Use getgid, not getegid. (sys:path-access, path-private-to-me, path-strictly-private-to-me): Use getuid, getgid and rename euid variable to uid. * txr.1: Updated.
* path-search: rewrite in C with saner semantics.Kaz Kylheku2021-09-251-13/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The new function: - just returns the name if it contains path name components. - returns nil if the name is "." or "..". - tests for existence only, not permission to execute. * lisplib.c (path_test_set_entries): Do not auto-load path-test module on the path-search symbol, since it is no longer implemented there. * stdlib/path-test.tl (path-search): Function removed. * stream.c (path_var_sep_char): New global variable. (path_search): New function. (detect_path_separators): Also set path_var_sep_char to semicolon on Cygnal. (stream-init): Register path-search intrinsic here now. * stream.h (path_var_sep_char, path_search): Declared. * tests/018/path-test.tl: New tests. * txr.1: Documentation revised for path-search.

| | | | | | | | | | | | * lisplib.c (path_test_set_entries): Autoload on path-search. * stdlib/path-test.tl (path-search): New function. * tests/018/path-test.tl: New file. * txr.1: Documented. * stdlib/doc-lookup.tl: Updated.
* file layout: moving share/txr/stdlib to stdlib.Kaz Kylheku2021-06-241-0/+187
This affects run-time also. Txr installations where the executable is not in directory ending in ${bindir} will look for stdlib rather than share/txr/stdlib, relative to the determined installation directory. * txr.c (sysroot_init): If we detect relative to the short name, or fall back on the program directory, use stdlib rather than share/txr/stdlib as the stdlib_path. * INSTALL: Update some installation notes not to refer to share/txr/stdlib but stdlib. * Makefile (STDLIB_SRCS): Refer to stdlib, not share/txr/stdlib. (clean): In unconfigured mode, remove the old share/txr/stdlib entirely. Remove .tlo files from stdlib. (install): Install lib materials from stdlib. * txr.1: Updated documentation under Deployment Directory Structure. * share/txr/stdlib/{asm,awk,build,cadr}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{asm,awk,build,cadr}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{compiler,conv,copy-file,debugger}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{compiler,conv,copy-file,debugger}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{defset,doc-lookup,doc-syms,doloop}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{defset,doc-lookup,doc-syms,doloop}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{each-prod,error,except,ffi}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{each-prod,error,except,ffi}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{getopts,getput,hash,ifa}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{getopts,getput,hash,ifa}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{keyparams,match,op,optimize}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{keyparams,match,op,optimize}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{package,param,path-test,pic}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{package,param,path-test,pic}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{place,pmac,quips,save-exe}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{place,pmac,quips,save-exe}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{socket,stream-wrap,struct,tagbody}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{socket,stream-wrap,struct,tagbody}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{termios,trace,txr-case,type}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{termios,trace,txr-case,type}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{ver,vm-param,with-resources,with-stream}.tl: Renamed to stdlib/{ver,vm-param,with-resources,with-stream}.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/yield.tl: Renamed to stdlib/yield.tl. * share/txr/stdlib/{txr-case,ver}.txr: Renamed to stdlib/{txr-case,ver}.txr. * gencadr.txr: Update to stdlib/place.tl. * genman.txr: Update to stdlib/cadr.tl.
