* args: don't use alloca for const size cases.Kaz Kylheku2022-10-151-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * args.h (args_decl_list): This macro now handles only constant values of N. It declares an anonyous container struct type which juxtaposes the struc args header with exactly N values. This is simply defined as a local variable without alloca. (args_decl_constsize): Like args_decl, but requiring a constant N; implemented via args_decl_list. (args_decl_list_dyn): New name for the old args_decl_list which calls alloca. No places in the code depend on this at all, except the definition of args_decl. (args_decl): Retargeted to args_decl_list_dyn. There is some inconsistency in the macro naming in that args_decl_constsize depends on args_decl_list, and args_decl depends on arg_decl_list_dyn. This was done to minimize diffs. Most direct uses of args_decl_list have a constant size, but a large number of args_decl uses do not have a constant size. * eval.c (op_catch): Use args_decl_constsize. * ffi.c (ffi_struct_in, ffi_struct_get, union_out): Likewise. * ftw.c (ftw_callback): Likewise. * lib.c (funcall, funcall1, funcall2, funcall3, funcall4, uniq, relate): Likewise. * socket.c (sockaddr_in_unpack, sockaddr_in6_unpack, sockaddr_un_unpack): Likewise. * stream.c (formatv): Likewise. * struct.c (struct_from_plist, struct_from_args, make_struct_lit): Likewise. * sysif.c (termios_unpack): Likewise. * time.c (broken_time_struct): Likewise.
* New method: str-addr.Kaz Kylheku2022-10-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * socket.c (sock_set_entries): Intern str-addr symbol. There is no autoload on this because the struct types of which this is a method don't exist if the socket module has not been loaded. * stdlib/socket.tl ((sockaddr-in str-addr), (sockaddr-in6 str-addr), (sockaddr-un str-addr)): New methods. * tests/014/str-addr.tl: New file. This provides coverage not just for the str-addr method, but the hitherto untested address to text functions. This is why the bug was found, that was addressed in the previous commit. The test case which produces "8000::1" was actually producing "800:1". * txr.1: Documented. * stdlib/doc-syms.tl: Updated.
* New sockaddr-str function.Kaz Kylheku2022-10-021-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This function "intelligently" constructs an address object of the right type from a string. * socket.c (sock_set_entries): Autoload socket.tl on sockaddr-str function being accessed. * stdlib/socket.tl (sockaddr-str): New function. * tests/014/sockaddr-str.tl: New file. * txr.1: Documented. * stdlib.doc-syms.tl: Updated.
* autoload: move socket material into socket module.Kaz Kylheku2022-02-191-4/+64
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * autoload.c (sock_set_entries, sock_instantiate): Functions removed from here. (autoload_init): autoload_reg call for above functions removed from here. (autoload_intern): New function, wrapper for intern_only. sock_set_entries uses intern_only which is static, so we need to expose this. * autoload.h (autoload_intern): Declared. * socket.c (sock_set_entries, sock_instantiate): Functions moved here. intern_only call replaced with autoload_intern. (sock_load_init): Function removed: body moved into sock_instantiate, which no longer calls sock_load_init.
* ffi: move socket stuff to socket module.Kaz Kylheku2022-02-171-0/+96
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * alloca.h (zalloca): Macro moved here from ffi.c; it's useful to any code that wants to do a zero-filled alloca, and socket.c needs it now. * ffi.c (HAVE_SOCKETS): All includes conditional on HAVE_SOCKETS removed. (zalloca): Macro removed; moved to alloca.h. (ffi_type_struct_checked, ffi_type_lookup): Static functions changed to external linkage. (ffi_type_size, ffi_type_put, ffi_type_get): New functions, used by external module that has incomplete definition of struct txr_ffi_type. (type_by_size): New static array, moved out of ffi_init_extra_types function. (ffi_type_by_size): New function. (ffi_init_extra_types): type_by_size array relocated to file scope. (sock_opt, sock_set_opt): Moved to socket.c, and adjusted to use newly developed external access to needed ffi mechanisms. (ffi_init): Numerous definitions related to sockets removed; these go to socket.c. * ffi.h (struct txr_ffi_type): Declared here now as incomplete type. (ffi_type_struct_checked, ffi_type_size, ffi_type_put, ffi_type_get, ffi_type_lookup, ffi_type_by_size): Declared. * lib.c (init): Call new function sock_init. * socket.c (sock_opt, sock_set_opt): New functions, moved from ffi.c, and slightly adapted to work with external interfaces exposed by ffi.c. (sock_init): New function. This performs unconditional initializations not keyed to the lazy loading lisplib.c mechanism. Here we create the socklen-t FFI type. FFI types lookup doesn't trigger lazy loading, so we do it this way; the alternative would be to introduce lazy load triggering to FFI type lookup, just for this one type. (sock_load_init): All the socket function and variable registrations move here from ffi_init.

* sockets: bug in clearing SOCK_* type flags.Kaz Kylheku2021-09-111-6/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Paul A. Patience reports a regression in 3d5d525eb525cfad8f643917c31e3d9fedce2874, whereby the code marked with #if SOCK_NONBLOCK || SOCK_CLOEXEC is being excluded by the preprocoessor, and so those flags are not being cleared from the socket type that we retain. This is because these preprocessor symbols are not necessarily integer constants. They may expand to C enum identifiers, in which case, in preprocessor expressions they appear to take on the value zero. * socket.c (open_socket, socketpair_wrap): Use the if statement to test for SOCK_NONBLOCK or SOCK_CLOEXEC being nonzero, rather than a preprocessor #if. This should still be optimized away as unreachable code if they are zero. * tests/014/socket-misc.tl: New file.
* sockets: throw exception if socket call fails.Paul A. Patience2021-09-111-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | The open_socket function was not checking the result of the socket call for failure, which would cause datagram socket streams to be initialized with an invalid file descriptor (-1) and, when opening stream sockets, throw an error not representative of the actual problem. * socket.c (open_socket): Throw exception if socket call fails.
* exceptions: hack to store errno in string object.Kaz Kylheku2021-09-071-35/+35
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Basic idea: when we throw an exception that pertains to a system error which has an errno code, we can stick the errno into the memory area of the character string, into the wchar_t that immediately follows the null terminator. We can do this because strings track their actual allocation size. A pair of setter/getter functions to set and retrieve this value are provided, and all functions in the code which can set such a code are updated to do so, simply by calling the newly added uw_ethrowf that drop-in replaces for uw_throwf. * lib.[ch] (string_set_code, string_get_code): New functions. * unwind.[ch] (uw_ethrowf): New function. * eval.c (eval_init): Register string-set-code and string-get-code intrinsics. * ftw.c (ftw_wrap): Switch to uw_ethrowf. * parser.c (open_txr_file): Likewise. * socket.c (dgram_overflow): Store the ENOBUFS error in errno, and use uw_ethrowf instead uw_throwf. (dgram_get_byte_callback, dgram_flush, sock_bind, to_connect, open_sockfd, sock_connect, sock_listen, sock_accept, sock_shutdown, sock_timeout, socketpair_wrap): Switch to uw_ethrowf. * stream.c (dev_null_get_fd, stdio_maybe_read_error, stdio_maybe_error, stdio_close, pipe_close, open_directory, open_file, open_fileno, open_tail, fds_subst, open_subprocess, open_command, remove_path, rename_path, tmpfile_wrap, mkdtemp_wrap, mkstemp_wrap): Switch to uw_ethrowf. * sysif.c (mkdir_wrap, ensure_dir, chdir_wrap, getcwd_wrap, rmdir_wrap, mknod_wrap, mkfifo_wrap, chmod_wrap, do_chown, symlink_wrap, link_wrap, readlink_wrap, close_wrap, val exec_wrap, stat_impl, do_utimes, pipe_wrap, poll_wrap, getgroups_wrap, setuid_wrap, seteuid_wrap, setgid_wrap, setegid_wrap, setgroups_wrap, getresuid_wrap, setresuid_wrap, setresgid_wrap, crypt_wrap, uname_wrap, opendir_wrap, getrlimit_wrap, setrlimit_wrap): Likewise. * termios.c (tcgetattr_wrap, tcsetattr_wrap, tcsendbreak_wrap, tcdrain_wrap, tcflush_wrap, tcflow_wrap): Likewise. * tests/018/errno.tl: New file. * txr.1: Documented. * stdlib/doc-syms.tl: Updated.
* sockets: improve socked type patch.Kaz Kylheku2021-09-061-10/+12
| | | | | | | | * socket.c (SOCK_NONBLOCK, SOCK_CLOEXEC): #define these as 0 if they are missing. (open_socket, socketpair_wrap): Clear the SOCK_NONBLOCK and SOCK_CLOEXEC flags in a single operation instead of two. Use C native arithmetic instead of Lisp logand and lognot.
* sockets: clear non-type bits after fd creation.Paul A. Patience2021-09-061-0/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The SOCK_NONBLOCK and SOCK_CLOEXEC non-type bits are a convenience allowed by the socket and socketpair functions, but they prevent simple comparisons with the actual socket types SOCK_STREAM, SOCK_DGRAM, etc. Before this commit, opening datagram sockets with any of these bits ORed into the type would result in TXR not realizing that such sockets were datagram sockets because the type would be compared directly with SOCK_DGRAM. Various problems would ensue, such as calling listen on a datagram socket. This commit clears the SOCK_NONBLOCK and SOCK_CLOEXEC bits after calling socket or socketpair so that the socket streams get the actual socket type. A potentially better solution would be to manually define SOCK_TYPE_MASK as 0xF (because although Linux defines it as such in include/linux/net.h, it doesn't export it to userspace) and AND it with the socket type, because clearing SOCK_NONBLOCK and SOCK_CLOEXEC will not be enough if new flags are added in the future, and it's probably more likely for that to happen than for SOCK_TYPE_MASK to be changed. * socket.c (open_socket, socketpair_wrap): Clear the SOCK_NONBLOCK and SOCK_CLOEXEC bits from the socket type after calling socket or socketpair, and before initializing the socket streams.
* sockets: make error messages more consistent.Paul A. Patience2021-09-061-17/+17
| | | | | | | | | | * socket.c (dgram_set_sock_peer): set-sock-peer -> sock-set-peer. (sock_bind, to_connect, sock_accept, socketpair_wrap): Use ~a and self in uv_throwf calls. (to_connect): Add colon after self in a uv_throwf call not reporting "failed". (sock_listen): Remove colon after self from uv_throwf call reporting "failed".

* getaddrinfo: implement canonname.Kaz Kylheku2021-08-151-2/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Paul A. Patience noted that the canonname_s variable is not used in the C code. This indicates that the AI_CANONNAME functionality of getaddrinfo isn't implemented. Let's do that. * stdlib/socket.tl (sockaddr): New slot, canonname. (addrinfo): Default canonname to nil, not 0, since it is a string that may be absent. * socket.c (getaddrinfo_wrap): If the first address object has a non-null ai_canonname and it was requested via the flags, then stick that name into every returned structure. * txr.1: Documented.
* musl: fix missing <sys/time.h>.Kaz Kylheku2021-08-041-2/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Issue peported by Ethan Hawk. Our socket.c module is using struct timeval without including <sys/time.h>, which breaks on musl. * configure: in the select test, let's include <sys/time.h>, and if the test passes, let's set have_sys_time, so that HAVE_SELECT implies HAVE_SYS_TIME. This way code wrapped with HAVE_SELECT doesn't separately have to test for HAVE_SYS_TIME. * socket.c: If HAVE_SYS_TIME is true, then we include <sys/time.h>, independently of HAVE_SELECT. (sock_timeout, sock_load_init): Like the select-based code, code using SO_SNDTIMEO or SO_RCVTIMO also uses timeval, so needs to be wrapped with HAVE_SYS_TIME.
* type: disallow structs using built-in type names.Kaz Kylheku2021-07-081-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is a big commit motivated by the need to clean up the situation with built-in type symbols, COBJ objects and structs. The struct type system allows struct types to be defined for symbols like regex or str, which are used by built-in or cobj types. This is a bad thing. What is worse, structure instances are COBJ types which identify their type using the COBJ class symbol mechanism. There are places in the C implementation which assume that when a COBJ has a certain class symbol, it is of a certain expected type, which is totally different from and incompatible form a struct instance. User code can define a structure object which will fool that code. There are multiple things going on in this patch. The major theme is that the COBJ representation is changing. Instead of a class symbol, COBJ instances now carry a "struct cobj_class *" pointer. This pointer is obtained by registration via the cobj_register function. All modules must register their class symbols to obtain these class handles, which are then used in cobj() calls for instantiation. The CPTR type was identical to COBJ until now, except for the type tag. This is changing; CPTR objects will keep the old representation with the class symbol. commit 20fdfc6008297001491308849c17498c006fe7b4 Author: Kaz Kylheku <kaz@kylheku.com> Date: Thu Jul 8 19:17:39 2021 -0700 * ffi.h (carray_cls): Declared. * hash.h (hash_cls): Declared. This requires changes in a large number of places. In a few places, additional functions acquire a self argument. The ffi module has the most extensive example of this. Some functions mention their name in a larger string, or have scattered literals giving their name; with the introduction of the self local variable, these are replaced by references to self. In the following changelog, the notation TS stands for "take self argument", meaning that the functions acquires a new "val self" argument. The notation DS means "define self": the functions in question defines a self variable, which they pass down. The notation PS means that the functions pass down an existing self variable to functions that now require it. * args.h (args_count): TS. * arith.c (c_unum, c_num): TS. * Reduce footprint of :fd property.Kaz Kylheku2020-04-251-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Querying the :fd stream property is equivalent to calling the stream-fd function. Streams have a C virtual function get_fd, so implementing :fd in their getprop functions is redundant functionality. The stream-getprop function can test for :fd and call stream-fd, so the stream implementations don't have to deal with the :fd property. Also, there are still places in the code base that are using stream_getprop to get the file descriptor, instead of calling stream_fd. If we fix all this, then fd_k remains referenced only in a very small number of places. * socket.c (dgram_get_prop): Don't handle :fd any more. * stream.c (unimpl_get_fd): Static function removed. (fill_stream_ops): Default the get_fd function to null_get_fd instead of unimpl_get_fd, so it doesn't throw. Even a stdio stream don't throw; when the file is closed, it returns nil. (stdio_get_prop): Don't handle :fd any more. (stream_get_prop): Handle :fd here. If the stream has a get_fd function that isn't null_get_fd, then call it. Only if the stream doesn't have a get_fd function, fall back on its get_prop function. * sysif.c (mkdir_wrap, poll_wrap, simulate_setuid_setgid): Call stream_fd instead of stream_get_prop.
* sockets: connect bugfix and use poll in preference to select.Kaz Kylheku2020-04-231-35/+71

(sock_accept): Use fd_timeout; fall back on non-timed-out accept if poll or select not available.

The C++ compiler, with -Wextra, doesn't like C's universal struct initializer { 0 }, individually complaining about all the remaining members not being initialized. What works in C++ is the { } initializer. | | | | | | | * socket.c (getaddrinfo_wrap): Initialize alist to null, because getaddrinfo doesn't set it in the failure case! Then, avoid calling freeaddrinfo for null pointer; POSIX doesn't require that to work.
* Fix memory leak in dgram socket streams.Kaz Kylheku2016-06-081-0/+1
| | | | | * socket.c (dgram_destroy): Free the dgram_stream structure too, not just its buffers.
* Use width of 8 for struct dgram boolean bitfields.Kaz Kylheku2016-05-291-2/+2
| | | | | | | | * socket.c (struct dgram): Members is_connected and is_byte_oriented widened from 1 to 8 bits. This allows byte-access instructions to be used on architectures like x86. All the flags still fit into a word, so the structure doesn't get bigger.
* Support byte oriented mode in dgram sockets.Kaz Kylheku2016-05-291-3/+19
| | | | | | | | | * socket.c (struct dgram_stream): New member, is_byte_oriented. (dgram_get_char): In byte oriented mode, just get one byte and convert to a character just like stdio_get_char: zero goes to U+DC00, and 0x01-0xFF go to U+0001 to U+FFFF. (dgram_get_prop, dgram_set_prop): Handle :byte-oriented property for getting and setting the is_byte_oriented flag.
