It is against TXR coding conventions to use the C cast
notation. The usage creeps into the code. To find instances of
this, we must compile using GNU g++, and add -Wold-style-cast
via EXTRA_FLAGS.
* eval.c (prof_call): Use macro instead of cast.
* ffi.c (pad_retval, ffi_varray_alloc, make_ffi_type_union,

* lib.c (cyr, chk_xalloc, spilt_str_keep, vector,

* linenoise.c (record_undo): Likewise. Also, drop one
superfluous cast: wstrdup_fn returns wchar_t *.

The c_num and c_unum functions now take a self argument for
identifying the calling function. This requires changes in a
large number of places.
In a few places, additional functions acquire a self
argument. The ffi module has the most extensive example of
this.
Some functions mention their name in a larger string, or have
scattered literals giving their name; with the introduction of
the self local variable, these are replaced by references to
self.
In the following changelog, the notation TS stands for "take
self argument", meaning that the functions acquires a new "val
self" argument. The notation DS means "define self": the functions
in question defines a self variable, which they pass down.
The notation PS means that the functions pass down an existing
self variable to functions that now require it.

Curiously, the itypes_little_endian variable was introduced in
April 2017, in a the first commit implementing buffers. The
variable was initialized, but never referenced. About a month
after that, I introduced HAVE_LITTLE_ENDIAN config.h macro,
which is always present and defined as 0 or 1. This was used
right away in the implementation of FFI bitfields, and later
on in other FFI work. In spite of HAVE_LITTLE_ENDIAN, almost
exactly a year after itypes_little_endian was introduced, I
mistakenly put that variable to use instead of recognizing it
as superfluous and removing it in favor of using
HAVE_LITTLE_ENDIAN. That is what I'm doing now.
* itypes.c (itypes_little_endian): Variable removed.
(itypes_init): Function removed, since its only job is to
initialize this variable.
* itypesl.h (itypes_little_endian, itypes_init): Declarations
removed.
* lib.c (init): Call to itypes_init removed.
* parser.c (read_file_common): Instead of
itypes_little_indian, use HAVE_LITTLE_ENDIAN, which
the configuration script always exists and is defined
as 0 or 1.

This is the fourth round of an effort to enable GCC's -Wextra
option. Instances of code that test whether an unsigned
quantity is negative are repaired. Real bugs are found.
* itypes.c (c_u32, c_uint, c_ulong): Remove useless comparison
for < 0 that was copy-pasted from the signed cases.
* linenoise/linenoise.c (show_help, edit): Do not test the
return value of the getch_fn callback for negative. It returns
wint_t, which may be unsigned. Test for the WEOF value.
This is a bug because since the original comparison is
always false, the code fails to catch the WEOF return.

If double_intptr_t is at least 64 bits wide (which is always
going to be true) we can take advantage of it.
* itypes.c (c_i64, c_u64): Provide implementations that use
the new dbl_intptr_t and dbl_uintptr_t infrastructure.
The fallback implementation that uses ash and logior is
basically not used now.
(num_64, unum_64): New functions for obtaining a Lisp value
from a 64 bit number, abstracting whether this is done via the
cnum or dbl_cnum route.
* itypes.h (u64_t, i64_t): Define in terms of double_uintptr_t
and double_intptr_t, if no other 64 bit type is available.
(num_64, unum_64): Declared.

* hash.c (equal_hash, eql_hash, cobj_eq_hash_op,
hash_hash_op): Multiply object size by CHAR_BIT and switch on
number of bits, rather than bytes.
* sysif.c (off_t_num): Likewise.
* arith.c, ffi.c, itypes.c, rand.c: In numerous #if directive,
fix size tests from bytes to bits.
* configure: in the test that detects integer types, and in
the test for enabling large file offsets, detect one more
variable from the system: the value of CHAR_BIT. This
turns into SIZEOF_BYTE. We use that value instead of a
hard-coded 8.

VM machine code is endian-specific: it consists of 32 bit
instruction words which are 32 bit in the local byte order.
Thus code assembled on a little-endian machine won't run
on a big endian-machine, or vice versa: unless we identify
the situation and byte-swap the code when we load it.
* buf.c (buf_swap32): New function.
* buf.h (buf_swap32): Declared.
* parser.c (read_file_common): Decode the third element from
the version: a Boolean indicating big endian, if true.
If the object file's endian is opposite from our endian, then
byte swap the code.
* itypes.c (itypes_init): Oops, calculation of
itypes_little_endian was broken due to classic C =/== typo.
Luckily, nothing has used this flag so far; it's been waiting
for this first use. I caught this due to testing on a PPC64
box.
* share/txr/stdlib/compiler.tl (%big-endian%, %tlo-ver%): New
variables.
(usr:compile-file): The file version comes from %tlo-ver% now,
which includes the big-endian flag.

Old style casts have crept into the code base.
* buf.c (make_buf, buf_grow, buf_get_i8, buf_get_u8): Replace
old style cast with macro.
* ffi.c (align_sw_get, align_sw_put, ffi_be_i32_get,
ffi_be_u32_get, ffi_le_i32_put, ffi_le_i32_get,
ffi_le_u32_get, ffi_be_i64_put, ffi_be_i64_get,
ffi_be_u64_get, ffi_le_i64_put, ffi_le_i64_get,
ffi_le_u64_get, ffi_sbit_put, ffi_sbit_get,
ffi_init_extra_types): Likewise.
* hash.c (hash_buf): Likewise.
* itypes.c (c_i32, c_i64, c_u64): Likewise.
* stream.c (stdio_put_buf, stdio_fill_buf): Likewise.
|
|
|
|
|
| |
* itypes.c (c_u64): Replace copy and pasted signed
check with the unsigned check.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
* itypes.c (c_i32): Avoid the troublesome expressions
-0x80000000. Instead, cast 0x7FFFFFFF to the cnum type,
then invert, and subtract one.
(c_i64): Similarly for -0x8000000000000000.
|
|
|
|
|
| |
* itypes.c (c_i64): Fix c_num being called on the function
pointer num rather than the correct operand n.
|
|
|
|
|
| |
* itypes.c (c_u8, c_u16, c_u32, c_u64, c_uint): Fix messages
referring to signed version of type.

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| |
Unsigned version of cnum becomes less verbose.
* arith.c (c_uint_ptr_num): Renamed to c_unum.
* arith.h (c_uint_ptr_num): Declaration removed.
(c_unum): Declared.
* itypes.c (c_u32, c_u64, c_uint): Follow rename.
* lib.h (ucnum): New typedef.
* rand.c (make_random_state): Follow rename.
|
|
* Makefile (OBJS): New objects itypes.o and buf.o.
* buf.c, buf.h: New files.
* itypes.c, itypes.h: New files.
* lib.c (obj_print_impl): Handle BUF via buf_print and
buf_pprint.
(init): Call itypes_init and buf_init.
* parser.h (end_of_buflit): Declared.
* parser.l (BUFLIT): New exclusive state.
(grammar): New rules for recognizing start of buffer
literal and its interior.
(end_of_buflit): New function.
* parser.y (HASH_B_QUOTE): New token.
(buflit, buflit_items, buflit_item): New nonterminals
and corresponding grammar rules.
(i_expr, n_expr): These symbols now generate a buflit;
a buffer literal is a kind of expression.
(yybadtoken): Handle HASH_B_QUOTE case.
